Amaravati Sri Blaji Temple Gives the Capital a Spiritual Identity

With the objective of shaping Amaravati not only as an administrative capital but also as a major spiritual center, development works of the Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple are progressing at a rapid pace. The coalition government has taken this project up as a prestigious initiative, while the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has prepared and is implementing a comprehensive master plan for the temple’s development. The core aim of this plan is to equip the Sri Venkateswara Temple in the capital city of Amaravati with facilities on par with Tirumala, so that it can attract lakhs of devotees in the future. Accordingly, all aspects from construction to services are being executed with a long-term vision.

260 Crore Development in Two Phases

TTD has resolved to develop the Sri Venkateswara Temple in two phases at a total cost of 260 crore. Of this, 140 crore will be spent in the first phase and 120 crore in the second phase. Notably, the works undertaken in the first phase are expected to define the future structure and character of the temple.

Major Constructions in the First Phase

In the first phase, a second prakaram (outer enclosure) around the temple will be constructed at a cost of 92 crore. This has been designed extensively, keeping in mind the anticipated influx of devotees. In addition, works worth ₹48 crore will include the construction of a seven-storeyed grand Rajagopuram, an Arjitha Seva Mandapam, Glass Mandapam, Vahana Mandapam, Ratha Mandapam, Anjaneya Swamy Temple, Pushkarini, and cut-stone flooring. Once completed, the temple will present a harmonious blend of traditional temple architecture and modern amenities.

Alongside these development works, TTD is also taking steps to ensure distribution of annaprasadam twice a day. There is a strong expectation that, in the future, Sri Venkateswara Swamy’s annaprasadam in Amaravati will gain recognition similar to the renowned Tirumala annadanam.

Comprehensive Pilgrim Facilities in the Second Phase

After the completion of the first phase, the second phase will focus on strengthening infrastructure around the temple. This phase will include the development of mada streets around the temple, approach roads, an annadanam complex, rest houses for pilgrims, residential quarters for priests and staff, a guest house, an administrative building, a meditation hall, and parking facilities for vehicles. With these additions, the Amaravati temple is set to emerge as a fully developed pilgrim center.

Spiritual Dimension to Capital Development

The development of the Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple clearly reflects the coalition government’s emphasis on spirituality alongside administration and infrastructure in Amaravati’s growth. Once completed, the temple is expected to provide the capital with a distinct spiritual identity and also give a significant boost to religious tourism. Overall, the Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple development project in Amaravati is being viewed by political and religious circles as a crucial step towards spiritually strengthening the future of the capital.
